New Emergency Department
STEGH has one of the best-managed Emergency Departments in the province. Although the demand for emergency services continues to rise, the hospital has put strategies in place to reduce patient wait times.
But emergency care is delivered within aging and inadequate facilities. The current Emergency Department is essentially a hallway. Treatment rooms, waiting areas and staff support areas are small, cramped and lack patient privacy and confidentiality.
The redevelopment project will include a bigger, more efficient Emergency Department that will accommodate new technologies and enable STEGH to continue to provide excellent patient care.
Benefits and features:
- Double the size of the current Emergency Department
- Private triage areas
- Safe environment for all patients
- Improved access to diagnostic imaging
- More effective infection control and safety
- Improved work environment for staff
Quick Facts:
- STEGH receives more than 36,700 emergency department visits per year
- 90% of patients admitted to STEGH come through the Emergency Department
- The demand for emergency services is projected to increase by 2-3% each year
